Design Essentials Review

Sorry for the delay in my posts, but I have been swamped as of lately. Work and coaching has picked up drastically causing me to be super tired by the end of the day. Moving right along I did try out Design Essentials Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Honey Curl Forming Custard for three weeks to see if my hair benefited and if I would have defined curls. I purchased both product from target for about $15 dollars a piece which is not overly expensive.

The Daily Moisturizer claims to revitalize curls, provide frizz control and emit a long lasting shine. The ingredients are sulfate, silicone, and paraben free as well. This product is very easy to use because it can be used for various reasons. You can use it after wash n’ go’s, or even as a refresher at night.

Is the product high in quality?

  • Yes to a certain extent. The ingredients in my opinion sets it apart from other store brought products. Absolutely love the fact, that water is listed first followed by glycerin, that makes it rich and have great slippage.

Pros and Cons

  • The cost of the product
  • The ingredients
  • The slippage (makes hair pliable)
  • Adds moisture without weight
  • No over whelming odor

  • Hair does not feel or look moisturizer by the end of the day
  • Did not control frizz
  • Curl pattern was not revitalized until the hair was completely dry

Is it worth the money?

  • No, this product could retail for at most $7 dollars and then I would not feel like my money is wasted due to the claims on the bottle.

Moving on to the Honey Curl Forming Custard. It claims to define curls, stretch coils and curls, add shine, and reduce frizz. The ingredients are free of silicone, paraben, paraffin, petrolatum and mineral oil.

Is the product easy to use?

    • No it is not. This is a product that you have to learn how much is to much according to your hair. Using to much can leave your curls limp and dry which is what I experienced. You also kind of have to use both the Daily Moisturizer with the Custard so there is a balance and your hair will not dry out as fast.

Is the product high in quality?

    • Only because of its ingredients, if the ingredients were different I would say no.

    Pros and Cons

    • Temporary hold on frizz
    • Defines curls to a certain extent
    • Do not need a lot of product
    • Does not leave residue
    • Somewhat reasonable price
    • No strong odor

    •  Not a long lasting hold
    • Takes away bounce
    • No shine

My overall rating is a three out of five for this product. What I was looking for was a curl definer along with a moisturizer so my curls would not be so dry. I found the moisture aspect (Natural Daily Moisturizer)  but not the curl definer (Honey Curl Forming Custard). I also believe that maybe it is just not the season for these products, because they are so lightweight. So I will test drive them again in the spring and summer to see what season best suits these products. Below are pictures of the end result of using the products.

Have you used these products? Did they work well for you?

     Much love,
